Mengapa Harus Jalan-Jalan ke Luar Negeri?


Setiap kali artikel jalan-jalan ke luar negeri dimuat di media, hampir selalu ada pembaca yang berkomentar, “Ah, yang seperti itu di Indonesia juga banyak!” atau “Pantai-pantai di Indonesia lebih bagus dari itu!” atau “Buat apa mahal-mahal ke luar negeri, wisata Indonesia jauh lebih bagus”, dan semacamnya.

Tentu masing-masing individu berhak menyuarakan pendapatnya, tetapi saya menjadi tergelitik untuk juga menyuarakan pendapat saya dalam hal ini.

Ketika diundang menjadi pembicara baik langsung maupun di radio, saya selalu berpesan bahwa Indonesia itu sangat luar biasa amat indah! Tetapi, walaupun saya tinggal di negara yang sangat indah, bukan berarti saya kemudian enggan berjalan-jalan ke luar negeri. Read more

Avoiding touts, beggars, street vendors in India is truly an art. It involved me saying “No, thank you!” with a smile, a “No!” with stern eyes – sometimes even scared eyes (oh trust me they are intimidating!). Even sometimes an escape plan is needed because a tout follows you around relentlessly.
